Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot Movie in the Works

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles last week added a new member to their family. Now they're returning to CG animation for a cinematic reboot. Nickelodeon is giving the film series a fresh start with a new animated feature from Point Grey Pictures, with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver Producer. Jeff Rowe, known for his work on Gravity Falls and Connected, is directing. Brendan O'Brian (Neighbors: Sorority Rising, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates) is writing the animated film's --script. Paramount Pictures will distribute the new movie internationally. The will be Nickelodeon Animation Studio’s first-ever CG theatrical production. Ramsey Naito, executive vice president of animation production and development, is overseeing production for Nickelodeon. Josh Fagen is overseeing for Point Grey Pictures.

 

"Adding Seth, Evan and James' genius to the humor and action that's already an integral part of TMNT is going to make this a next-level reinvention of the property," said Brian Robbins, president of kids & family entertainment for ViacomCBS, in a press release. "I'm looking forward to see what they do, and I know that Ramsey Naito and her team are excited to take the Nick Animation Studio into another great direction with their first-ever CG-animated theatrical."

 

Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1984 as a comic book series. It then became a hit animated television show, spawning a live-action television series and several blockbuster theatrical releases. This film will be the Turtles' second CG-animated feature film after 2007's TMNT.

 

TMNT is the Turtles' only animated featured film to date, though they have had two other non-theatrical animated films. In 2009, Turtles Forever saw three different iterations of the franchise meet for the first time. In 2019, the Turtles met the Dark Knight in Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The CG-animated reboot of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” from producer Seth Rogen and Nickelodeon is heading to theaters on Aug. 11, 2023, Rogen announced on Twitter.

 

Also producing from Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures production banner are co-founder Evan Goldberg and president James Weaver. Brendan O’Brien will write the reboot. He previously co-wrote the scripts for the comedies “Neighbors” and “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising,” both of which Rogen starred in and produced with Goldberg and Weaver. Jeff Rowe, who co-directed and wrote the recent Netflix animated movie “The Mitchells vs. the Machines,” will helm the film. Paramount is handling the global distribution for the reboot.

Between the voice pitch of the actors and their mannerisms I feel like this should be called "Prepubescent Mutant Ninja Turtles" but whatever. Hope kids like it!  Art style will take some getting used to for me, but it's not terrible.  Super A-list voice acting talent is always a plus! Going strong into their 40s.  Turtle Power!

The voices sound too young, or I'm too old. Either/or. Besides that I like what I see though. I hated the art style when we saw the stills, but now seeing it in motion it actually works for me, at least so far. 

I'm sure this will get a watch from me, even if I hate it. I can't resist a new TMNT movie.

Pretty much.  I had the same feeling, they sounded "young" but here's the thing, I'm 20+ years past being a teenager, so in hindsight, maybe that's what teenagers sound like lol.  The art will take some getting used to for me, but it seems to hit the right mix of fun and action etc.  Anything that keeps the Turtles popular works for me :)

"They do skate, actually," Rogen said during an interview with the Hawk vs. Wolf podcast (confirmed by the new poster). "What's funny is we were having a call with the music supervisor because we were pretty far along on and there's a lot of music in it and they're like 'The music doesn't go together...It goes together but in a weird way like how would you describe it?' And our director was like 'I kind of describe it as what you would kind of hear playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.' It's like a random assortment of music, kind of, but it all fits together perfectly, it kind of has that same energy and spirit. But it really it actually it's like very similar and there are literally some songs that are from like the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. It's amazing it's really cool, and it's fully animated and it comes out in August and it's incredible. I'm really psyched about it."

 

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem also features actual teenagers as the Turtles: Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, and Brady Noon Raphael. The supporting cast features more familiar names: Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, John Cena as Rocksteady, Jackie Chan as Splinter, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Ayo Edebiri as April O'Neil, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Seth Rogen as Bebop, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko, and Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom.

You can tell it's taken a lot of its queues from the Animated Spider-Verse films. Just done in a more clay style than comic book, if that makes sense.

I've now have my own passes closer to home, so these are up for grabs:

 

I've got a couple of passes to a prescreen here in Grapevine, Texas for this today the 26th at something like 7pm, for the new TMNT cartoon movie "Mutant Mayhem".

I'd happily email them to any interested that can attend, as it is 1st come 1st serve and you'd need to find your way there to line up early enough to get in. I have plans most Saturday mornings and won't be able to go myself. There are 2 passes and each one is for 2 people, so possibly a total of 4people could go!
