I also really hate the double standard being pulled by anyone defending him. Him being young and well versed in comics and hailed as the next generation of vintage comic dealers is seen as really good (which I agree it is, for anyone who fits that description) and yet he is excused for mistakes because he is just a kid. You can't have it both ways. If you are the person stepping up to be hailed as an Overstreet wunderkind, then stating that they do not know what warrants a purple label from CGC, the biggest professional grading company, just makes you look like an amateur, and not at all who I want selling me comics. I will address the discrepancy more below (eventually, lots of stuff to comment on)

I fully agree that the case against the OP is looking very bad and his lack of response screams volumes. Just not into destroying someone's lively hood until the facts are fully laid out (and again, it's lookin' real bad for him).

If Dylan actually committed a Federal level Fraud offense - being an Overstreet advisor will be the least of his worries.

He didn't commit anything that could go against him, even by e-bay standards, since the person is getting exactly what is on the image and the image describes what peopel are getting. That's what is so damn genius about this CGC mistake for anyone shady to exploit. You can always fall back on trusting that CGC, the number 1 comic book grading company,  put it in a blue label because that is what it is supposed to be and put the blame entirely on them if you are caught. After all, you are just selling the book as CGC has given it to you. It's a plea of ignorance, obviously not the best if you want to show yourself as a reputable seller, but in terms of breaking the law it's as good as it gets to avoid any penalty.

I truly hope people like Harley never die because this next generation taking over is completely clueless. (this obviously assumes that he is just extremely ignorant about industry norms and not scamming people outright). It also means he doesn't care to type the serial number online to see if everything is kosher with his thousand dollar sale.

That sounds like an amazing new venture for CGC. "we can either put this in a 5.0 universal slab, or an 8.0 universal slab with a sticker written "ugly" stuck to it".

He did not budge until CGC contacted him. And, as I previously stated, we won't know at all that he will follow through on anything until he posts these comics in their proper labels on these boards.

That is evident. It's also a load of bull since you describe the page quality instead. How the F is that a vital use of one's time when that is the easiest thing to notice on the slab picture aside from the grade (unlike the notes on restoration).

 

TLDR: Dylan has chosen to throw his reputation out the window and claim ignorance on industry standards to avoid being labelled a scam artist. Lesser of the 2 evils for sure, but it will cost him just as much potential loss in business. He is now just an amateur who we should avoid buying from, unless you are ok paying full price for a raw comic that could come back Purple or Green label.

Intent of causing harm is not enough for civil court. You have to show you suffered a financial harm in order to win any judgment.

To clarify what I was referring , I quoted Guardian Comics  ,but was only referring to the part where he mentioned " restoration is when you add stuff" to which my comment was directed . I was not debating whether trimming is or is not restoration.  I was saying that adding pieces does not ( obviously in cgcs book ) make a book restored.  

The actual label on the book I quoted is the superman 1 cgc Universal 0.5 that has the note " Logo & Superman images from original cover taped to color copy. COVERLESS " "Tape on centerfold ." Which is their exact punctuation.   

So adding a COLOR COPY  to a COVERLESS book does not equal restored when you TAPE ORIGINAL PIECES to that COPY. Which is what I was commenting and cringing at.

If I were to send in a book that has tape on it MOST of the time it comes back CONSERVED. 

If I send in a book that has a COLOR COPY COVER to a COVERLESS original it either comes back as RESTORED or QUALIFIED  depending on method of attachment. 

To be fair I really do not have any MAJOR issues with this book as it is neat. I was just surprised at CGCs choice in UNIVERSAL LABEL . Nothing to do with the book itself or who ever assembled it.

Nowhere even close as the source of this problem is CGC's lack of quality control here and also limited to a very tiny fractional number of the books slabbed by CGC.  In addition, anybody with any knowledge would know right away that this is NOT an acceptable practice.

What took place about 15 years ago when Dupchak, Masterchief, and Red Hook revealed what was happening behind the scenes in terms of the whole pressing fiasco was a complete game changer within the hobby as clearly evident by the fact that it has spawned an entire industry that still florishes to this day.  Completely different since CGC was fully complicit in the whole affair by letting people in the know get away scot free with making a whole ton of money through artificial manipulation of books using a practice that was thought by an unsuspecting marketplace to be restoration at the time and NOT AT ALL acceptable.  Needless to say, they were then forced to announced retroactively  :news:  that this former nefarious practice was indeed acceptable and "had" always been considered to be acceptable after being caught with their panties down around their ankles through before and after scanned images of the same books.  (tsk)  :censored:
