I would think that the phrase "lite multiple wear" definitely refers to the color loss (or scuffs) on the front and back cover. In my mind, this type of wear can easily happen from improper storage. But the other flaws mentioned undoubtedly contributed to the overall grade as well.

This is actually a very good example of how grading notes should be; they explain the contributing defects clearly and concisely. And to be honest, given the variety of small but noticeable flaws here (assuming that's also some glare on the upper right back cover) it seems like 8.5 is a pretty good assessment...

My understanding of grader's notes-and others can correct me as necessary-is that they are just notes.  Things maybe graders want to communicate to other graders.  They are not a list of all the defects.  They list things that might be overlooked.  Having light grader's notes and thinking that should mean a high grade is a misunderstanding of the function of grader's notes.

I like the point you've made here---many times the pre-grader will enter notes that will help the finalizer make their determination and explain why the pre-grader arrived at their grade. And many times a book will have so many flaws it's ridiculous to try and put them all in. I personally always liked to list the flaws that I felt affected the grade the most. That way, anyone looking at the book through the slab would (hopefully) understand why the book received the grade it did...

It would be nice but realistically there is no way they can do that.  Listing 100+ flaws on a $10 book for example.  Turnaround times would be incredible.  Cost would skyrocket.

I showed it to a bunch of people, who eventually counseled me off the edge, they would not reduce their opinion of the grade

merely bang it on something really hard.

So since its Friday and we have no pics of the book in question I 'm officially hijacking this thread to discuss this book that I bought that was cracked out, but the cracked case was sent with it, and had the grade 8.0 ghost rider 16 on it. It was sold to me dirt cheap at grade 8.0 so i'm not complaining at all, but the guy who sold it must have been furious at this grade and probably why it was cracked out. I've starred at this thing many times and cannot find why it was graded that way. The only flaws I see are a few NON color breaking creases along the spine and the wrap isn't perfect. Dosn't seem like this is enough to bring it down to 8.0  but maybe I'm wrong. Any thoughts?
