CGC: The Trusted Authority

Posted on 6/6/2014

Robert M. Overstreet, creator of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, has stated, “The addition of CGC’s independent, third-party certification to the marketplace has been one of the most important changes for collectors and dealers alike in the last decade.”

Many of you already know that CGC has been the hobby’s most preferred third-party grading service for collectible comics, magazines, photos and lobby cards since its founding in 1999. CGC offers professional condition analysis, including thorough restoration detection, before grading and encapsulating your collectibles in our state-of-the-art, archival safe holders. Once a comic has been graded and encapsulated, it is guaranteed to be in the conditioned specified on the label — a source of reassuring confidence to many collectors.

What may surprise some people is that CGC certification consistently helps comics realize greater value at auction. Compare graded and ungraded books on popular auction sites such as Heritage Auctions and eBay, and you’ll see books described in similar condition receiving very different pricing.
