CSG and CGC Trading Cards Experts on 'Pawn Stars'

Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®) Senior Grading Finalizer Andy Broome and CGC Trading Cards™ Senior Grading Finalizer Matt Quinn are among those who lend their expertise in episode 2 of the 20th season. Andy Broome started grading sports cards professionally in 2000. Since then, he has graded millions of cards, including the iconic ones such as the T206 Honus Wagner and the T206 Ty Cobb Back. Broome assisted in the creation of the “Shoebox Treasures” baseball card exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. In 2021, he helped launch CSG as its Senior Vintage Sports Grader, with an emphasis on pre-World War II cards and vintage Japanese baseball cards.

In the 1990s, trading card games like Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering took the world by storm. This phenomenon captured the attention of Matt Quinn, who had a talent for buying and selling cards online. His skill led him to the world of numismatic collectibles with a career with Stack’s Bowers Galleries. In 2018, Quinn became a full-time grader for Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®). In recent years, the acceleration of the trading card market led CCG to recruit Quinn to help develop a company serving the trading card community. In 2020, CGC Trading Cards launched, and Quinn transitioned to CGC Trading Cards Senior Grading Finalizer.

In recent years, the trading cards and sports cards markets have grown rapidly, prompting many people to wonder what their old cards are worth. As the value of these cards increases, the marketplace is responding with measures to ensure that only genuine cards are bought and sold. For example, eBay is an authentication partner with CSG and CGC Trading Cards, whose third-party certification services help give collectors peace of mind when buying cards.

“Pawn Stars” is centered around the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, where owner Rick Harrison and other shop representatives welcome customers looking to sell a wide variety of potentially valuable items whose authenticity is often uncertain. Before the negotiations over price can begin, experts are brought in to shed light on potential value. David Vagi, the Director of NGC Ancients (which is part of CCG coin-grading, affiliate Numismatic Guaranty Company™), has made many appearance on Pawn Stars to examine coins.
