Books certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) from the Modern and Copper Ages of comics could strike a pretty penny in the September High-Grade Modern auction presented by Pedigree Comics. The auction is open until September 14, 2022, and includes a spectacular selection of high-grade comics.

One star in the auction is a New Mutants #98 graded CGC 9.6 Signature Series, signed by writer Fabian Nicieza. Released by Marvel Comics in 1991, this issue is notable as the first appearance of Deadpool, Gideon and Copycat as Domino (If you’re looking for the first appearance of the real Domino to complete your set, this auction has an X-Force #11 graded CGC 9.8). Deadpool’s stock went up after actor Ryan Reynolds made him a household name with his 2016 film.

The auction also features a Sandman #8 graded CGC 9.8. Released in 1989 by DC Comics’ Vertigo label, the comic is significant for having the first appearance of the character Death, who appears in the Sandman television series on Netflix played by actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste. The series also stars actor Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, also known as Dream or the Sandman.

The Copper Age is recognized as 1984-1991, and the Modern Age is 1991-present.

Other CGC-certified highlights in the auction include:

  • an Eternals #1 graded CGC 9.8
  • an Incredible Hulk #200 graded CGC 9.8
  • a Ms. Marvel #1 graded CGC 9.8
  • an Uncanny X-Men #142 graded CGC 9.4
