CGC Featured Comic of the Month: Werewolf by Night #32

With a “Werewolf by Night” special coming in October to Disney+, we look at Werewolf by Night #32, the first appearance of Moon Knight.

Name of comic: Werewolf by Night #32

Comic publisher: Marvel Comics

Date: August 1975

Variants: A UK price variant edition was published along with the US release in 1975. A facsimile edition was also printed in 2020.

What makes it special? This book is the first appearance of Moon Knight, a Marvel vigilante with multiple personalities who appeared in a 2022 Disney+ series starring Oscar Isaac.

Why is it interesting now? Disney+ will air a “Werewolf by Night” special on October 7. The special is filmed in black and white and is said to be a comedy. While it’s not expected to include Moon Knight, the trailer does offer a first look at the Marvel character Man-Thing.

Did you know? The man who turns into a werewolf in this series is named Jack Russell. Co-creator Gerry Conway has denied purposefully naming him after a breed of dog.

Total graded by CGC: As of September 20, 2022, there are 4,930 US copies in the CGC Census and 209 UK price variant editions.

CGC highest graded: Nineteen copies share the highest recorded grade of 9.8.

Sales highlights: Heritage Auctions sold a copy of Werewolf by Night #32 graded CGC 9.8 for $31,200 in March 2020.
