Hake’s Offers a High-grade Amazing Spider-Man #1 Certified by CGC

Posted on 6/23/2023

Only seven copies of the Silver Age grail are known to exist in CGC 9.6 or higher, and one is available in Hake's Auctions' July sale.

A well-preserved issue of Amazing Spider-Man that is graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) is a top lot in an upcoming sale presented by Hake’s Auctions. The comic is rare to find with this high grade, with only six other CGC-certified examples known to exist in equal or higher grades. Bidding for the Hake’s Premier Auction begins on July 3, 2023.

Spider-Man was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15 by Marvel Comics in 1962. The new superhero immediately found success with readers, so Marvel rushed out his own series, beginning with Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 1963. The comic focuses on Spider-Man’s adventures with stories that recount how Peter Parker received his powers and teamed with the Fantastic Four against the Chameleon.

As of June 20, 2023, there were 4,692 copies of Amazing Spider-Man #1 in the CGC Census, including only five in CGC 9.6 Universal grade and two in CGC 9.8 Universal grade. In November 2022, a CGC 9.6 copy of Amazing Spider-Man #1 was sold for $336,000.
