The August auction includes Hendrix's famous "Flying Eyeball" poster and one from The Beatles’ final US concert.

Promoting some of some of the most iconic concerts of the 1960s, original posters certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) are on stage together in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale. Bidding is already underway for the Music Memorabilia & Concert Poster Signature Auction, which concludes on August 4-5, 2023.

Rocking its way to the top of the charts is a Jimi Hendrix Experience, Fillmore Auditorium & Winterland, February 1-4, 1968 original poster graded CGC 9.6 (lot 26325). This poster was designed by Rick Griffin, a renowned artist of concert posters who is recognized as one of the 'Big Five' psychedelic poster artists during the 1960s. Among Griffin’s influences was Von Dutch, a pin-stripe artist renowned for his depiction of the winged eyeball. Another example of this poster, one that is graded CGC 9.8, was sold by Heritage Auctions for $175,000 in May 2023.

Also headlining this auction is a Beatles Final Concert, Candlestick Park, San Francisco, California, August 29, 1966 original poster graded CGC 9.2 (lot 26283). The 1966 concert at Candlestick Park was the last Beatles performance of their North American tour in 1966. Despite the challenges they faced during the performance, the Beatles managed to deliver a memorable show. After the Candlestick Park concert, the Beatles focused solely on studio recordings and released their groundbreaking album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" the following year, in 1967.

This same example was previously sold through Heritage Auctions for $32,500 in April 2022.

Like comic books and trading cards, a lucrative collectibles market has developed around vintage concert posters. CGC, the world’s leading comic book certification and grading company since 1999, employs a 10-point grading scale for concert posters that is based on the industry standard the company established for comics, magazines and other collectibles. CGC-graded concert posters are inspected by at least two grading professionals to verify authenticity and then sealed in tamper-evident holders of a heavy-gauge archival plastic. The fully transparent front and back allow complete viewing of the poster and protect from any improper handling or soiling.
