CGC-graded Amazing Fantasy #15 and TMNT #1 Each Realize Six Figures in ComicLink Sale

Two comics graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), featuring the first appearances of Spider-Man and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, each sold for six figures in the first session of ComicLink’s Summer Featured Auction, which ended on August 31, 2023. The remaining Sessions 2 and 3, featuring comics and artwork, close on September 6, 2023.
Topping the auction was an Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 7.5, which realized $175,000. The book features the first appearance of Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962. After his immediate success in Amazing Fantasy #15, Marvel rushed Spider-Man into his own monthly series, and he has become one of the most recognizable superheroes of all time. Amazing Fantasy #15 is in the top tier of comic book grails; an example graded CGC 9.6 sold for $3.6 million in 2021, the second-highest amount for any comic book.
Also sold in this auction is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 graded CGC 9.8 that realized $131,000. This book from Mirage Studios in 1984 has the first appearance of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Master Splinter and the villain Shredder. Only 42 examples graded CGC 9.8 are recorded in the CGC Census, with none graded higher.
