CGC-certified Superman #1 in Goldin February Sale
Posted on 1/30/2024
Some of comics’ most exciting issues are found in Goldin Auctions’ January Pop Culture Elite auction, which closes on February 17, 2024. Leading the way are rare collectibles graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), including a grail featuring the Man of Steel.
Bidding for the Superman #1 graded CGC 2.0 (lot 2) is expected to run well into the six figures. Published in 1939 by DC Comics, following the title character’s debut just a year earlier, Superman #1 is the first comic book devoted entirely to one superhero. Superman's strength in sales demonstrated to publishers the viability of superheroes as a genre. The CGC Census contains only 179 examples of this book, and a mere 75 (including the one offered by Goldin) are in the coveted Universal grade.

This is the second time that this historic comic book has been offered this year. In January, an example graded CGC 7.0 sold through Heritage Auctions for a soaring $2,340,000.
