Mike Carlin Joins CGC for His First Ever Exclusive CGC Private Signing

Posted on 6/26/2024

CGC welcomes comic book writer and editor Mike Carlin!

CGC Signature Series is excited to announce an exclusive Private Signing with comic book writer and editor Mike Carlin, who has had a sensational career in the comic industry spanning decades. During his time in the industry, he worked for both publishing giants, Marvel and DC Comics.

Carlin began his professional comics career writing and drawing for Marvel Comics' Crazy Magazine before becoming an Assistant Editor for Mark Gruenwald, in 1982. Two years later he was promoted to Editor of Captain America and Fantastic Four. Carlin wrote Captain America, Ka-Zar and The Thing while at Marvel. He also wrote and drew a story in Bizarre Adventures #34 and the infamous Marvel Team-Up #137, featuring Aunt May as Galactus’ Herald!

In 1986, Dick Giordano hired Carlin to work with John Byrne and Andy Helfer on the re-launch of the Superman titles for DC Comics which eventually led to the best selling phenomenon, The Death and Return of Superman. Mike also wrote Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Flintstones and The Jetsons and the Metal Men for DC. During this time he was also co-writer, with Helfer, of fifteen teleplays for the syndicated Superboy television series.

From 1993 to 2003, Carlin was Vice President/Executive Editor supervising the entire DC Universe of comic book characters. Desiring to get back to the more creative side of the process he made the unusual move back to hands-on editing. From 2003 to 2010 he was Senior Group Editor at DC Comics for the Justice League of America line of titles. Finally, between 2011 and 2023, Carlin was the Creative Director/Animation for DC working on the animated projects featuring the DC properties on television and in direct-to-video movies. He retired from DC’s staff after almost 37 years in 2023.
