CGC-certified Blue Bolt and Amazing-Man Comics in Heritage Golden Age Sale
Posted on 7/15/2024
Timeless tales from the dawn of comic book history are among the collectibles graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) that are available to vintage comic collectors in a Heritage Auctions sale. Bidding is already underway for the Rarities of the Golden Age Showcase Auction, which concludes August 1-2, 2024.
The Golden Age of comic books, lasting from the late 1930s until mid-1950s, was a transformative era marked by the creation of iconic superheroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Captain America. These characters captivated readers with their adventures and moralistic narratives, establishing enduring archetypes and solidifying the superhero genre as a cultural phenomenon that shaped popular culture for decades.
One of the highlights of this auction is an Amazing-Man Comics #22 graded CGC 1.8 (lot 83019). Amazing-Man Comics was created by Bill Everett and published by Centaur Publications, featuring the adventures of John Aman, a hero with superhuman abilities bestowed upon him by Tibetan monks. Known for his green costume and extraordinary powers, including super strength and the ability to become invisible, Amazing-Man quickly became a notable character in the Golden Age of Comics. Created in 1939, the hero was later published by Malibu Comics and Marvel Comics, and after entering the public domain, he was also published by Dynamite Entertainment and Gallant Comics.

Another exciting find is this Blue Bolt #1 graded CGC 5.0 (lot 83046). Blue Bolt was created by Joe Simon and published by Novelty Press. The comic followed the adventures of Fred Parrish, a football player struck by lightning and endowed with superpowers. Notably, Blue Bolt marked an early collaboration between Simon and Jack Kirby, who would later become legendary figures in the comic book industry and together also created Captain America. In 1949, Blue Bolt was included in Novelty’s sale to artist J.B. Cole, who continued publishing the hero under his label Star Publications until 1954.
