Bernie Wrightson was a legendary comic book artist, celebrated for his horror-themed illustrations and co-creating the iconic Swamp Thing character for DC Comics, alongside writer Len Wein.

Beginning his career in the late 1960s, Wrightson quickly gained recognition for his masterful use of shadow, line work and the eerie atmospheric style that became synonymous with his name. His work on Swamp Thing redefined horror in comics, blending gothic horror with human vulnerability and solidifying his place as one of the genre’s most influential artists. He also contributed to Warren Publishing’s Creepy and Eerie horror anthologies and later worked with Marvel Comics on notable titles like The Punisher, Doctor Strange and the acclaimed graphic novel Spider-Man: Hooky.

Wrightson’s talent extended beyond comics, with his most celebrated non-comic work being his illustrations for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. This project, featuring over 50 meticulously detailed pen-and-ink drawings, is considered a masterpiece, capturing the gothic essence of the novel with haunting precision. Additionally, Wrightson worked in film, providing conceptual artwork for movies such as Ghostbusters, The Mist and Stephen King's Creepshow.

His prolific career, spanning over five decades, left an indelible impact on the horror genre, earning him a place as one of the most influential and revered artists in the world of comics and beyond.
