Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane was a quirky comic series that spotlighted one of DC’s most iconic characters in ways both progressive and downright bizarre. Running from 1958 to 1974, the series delved into Lois’s intrepid journalism, her relentless pursuit of Superman’s affections and her wild escapades, often featuring schemes to uncover Clark Kent’s identity or gain superpowers herself. While it reflected the gender norms of its time, with Lois often portrayed as love-struck or scheming, it also highlighted her bravery, wit and determination, paving the way for her evolution into the sharp, independent character modern fans know and love.

“I started collecting comic books in 1978 when I received a few comics for my birthday (including a Fantastic Four #193). I've been hooked ever since,” wrote Silver Collector on their Registry profile.

Speaking about this set, Silver Collector wrote, “This is my attempt at a nice Lois Lane set. The first CGC copy I acquired was #70 (in this set). I originally found the book for a friend, purchased from Ed Jaster. He submitted the book to CGC, and it came back a 9.6. He wanted to sell it, so I ended up buying it. I then started to accumulate more issues trying to get to the higher end of the grading scale. Even though this run came out in 1958, high grade early issues are really scarce!”

Some of the comics in this month’s featured collection include:

  • Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #1 graded CGC 8.0 – the debut issue
  • Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #29 graded CGC 9.6 – the first Silver Age Batman, Green Arrow and Aquaman crossover
  • Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #70 graded CGC 9.6 – the first Silver Age Catwoman
  • Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #74 graded CGC 9.6 – the first Bizarro Flash
  • Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #79 graded CGC 9.6 – the first Neal Adams artwork on Superman
  • Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane Annual #1 graded CGC 9.4 – an oversized anthology

These comics, and many more, helped earn this set the Best in Set Type Award from 2013 to 2023, and the Best Silver Age Set Award in 2023.
