Strong Results for CGC-certified Comics on eBay
Posted on 6/19/2025
Collectors looking to buy and sell CGC-certified comics have a choice between many major auction houses and platforms, including eBay. The popular option draws a large audience of serious buyers, with many listings reaching impressive prices.
One such result is an Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 5.0, which realized $45,300 on May 4, 2025. The book is a Silver Age grail, marking the moment in 1962 that Stan Lee and Steve Ditko revolutionized the superhero genre by introducing Spider-Man in the final issue of Amazing Fantasy. Superheroes up until that point were always adults, while the teenager was their sidekick. With Spider-Man, Lee said he wanted to create a teen hero who was more than a sidekick. His debut was a gamble, but it quickly paid off. Over the decades, Spider-Man has grown into one of the most beloved and recognizable characters in the world.
Also near the top of CGC-certified eBay sales of 2025, so far, is a Fantastic Four #1 graded CGC 4.5, which realized $17,151 on March 20. This isn’t the only example of this Silver Age grail recently sold on eBay — a CGC 3.5 realized $11,900 on April 14, 2025. Strong demand for this book is driven by the first appearance of the Fantastic Four, brought to life by the iconic duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This 1961 comic helped inaugurate the modern Marvel era of comics as we know it today and is enjoying a surge of excitement thanks to the upcoming film, Fantastic Four: First Steps, hitting theaters this summer. There are slightly more than 3,000 examples of this comic in the CGC Comics Census, topping out with three in the highest grade of 9.6.
Another exciting eBay sale this year is a Journey into Mystery #83 graded CGC Signature Series 6.5 (signed by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Joe Sinnott), which realized $17,100 on April 7, 2025. Published in 1962 by Marvel Comics, the book features the debut of Marvel’s Thor, the Norse god of thunder who was sent to Earth by his father, Odin, to learn humility under the guise of Dr. Donald Blake. The following year, Thor became a founding member of The Avengers, and his character has been adapted to many different film and television projects throughout the decades.
