CGC Comics Registry Featured Set: Favorite Caps
Posted on 7/1/2025
This July, we’re celebrating America by honoring the star-spangled origins of one of comics’ greatest heroes. Stand and salute the impressive Golden Age comics found in this month’s CGC Comics Registry Set — Favorite Caps, by NewForceComics!
Captain America burst onto the scene in 1941 with Captain America Comics #1, created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby for Timely Comics. With that unforgettable cover of Cap punching Hitler, the series launched one of the most patriotic and powerful heroes of the Golden Age. Early issues introduced key figures like Bucky Barnes and the Red Skull, mixing bold action with a clear stand against tyranny. Simon and Kirby’s storytelling was fast, fearless and deeply tied to the era, making Captain America a symbol of strength and conviction during World War II.
The original series ended in 1950 as the popularity of superhero comics gave way to more crime and horror.
More than a decade later, in 1964, Marvel Comics brought Captain America back in Avengers #4, written by Stan Lee with art by Captain America’s original co-creator Jack Kirby. Found frozen in ice, Steve Rogers returned as a man out of his time but still holding tight to the ideals he fought for. That revival re-established Cap as a central figure in the Marvel Universe and deepened his legacy as a hero shaped by history.
This July, as we celebrate American spirit and resilience, Captain America remains a reminder that true patriotism means standing up for what’s right, even when the world changes around you.
