A New Era for Signatures Starts Now! Get Your CGC Signature Series Autographs Graded

Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) pioneered witnessed signature authentication when it introduced CGC Signature Series in 2001. Nearly 25 years later, the program has enabled legions of fans to obtain the autographs of the creators they love, and the CGC Signature Series yellow label has become an icon in the hobby.

Now, CGC Signature Series is excited to offer collectors a new option to even further elevate their autographed collectibles — autograph grading! That’s right, signatures get their own grade based on quality, and the autograph grade is printed in the CGC grade box with the comic’s grade.

Already a CGC Signature Series collector with oodles of amazing autographs in your collection? ReHolders are welcome! CGC’s autograph experts will grade the autograph only; no regrade required for the comic as long as the CGC holder is intact.

Autograph grading is available across all tiers, including Vintage and High-Value, following a 1 to 10-point scale. While CGC Signature Series signings are performed under ideal conditions using high-quality pens with oversight from CGC, it is possible that even under the best conditions the autograph grade will be lower than a 10. Submitters are not guaranteed to receive a certain grading result, and all collectibles will be graded according to CGC’s standards.

To request autograph grading, simply check the box for “Autograph Grade” after entering your comic book title and declared vale when filling out the online submission form for CGC Signature Series events. The fee is $25 for up to two autographs. Please note that autograph grading is not available for collectibles with more than two autographs.

The autograph grade looks so good prominently displayed on the front of the label that it’s moving to the grade box for CGC x JSA submissions as well. In May 2024, CGC and JSA combined forces to offer authentication, grading and encapsulation services for comics and magazines with unwitnessed signatures, including autograph grading. But the autograph grade was printed on the back of the label. Now, it’s front and center for CGC x JSA-certified comics and magazines as well.

CGC Signature Series autograph grading provides collectors with an added layer of distinction, especially for books with celebrity or creator signatures where presentation and condition especially matter. An autograph grade provides clarity on the quality of the signature, whether it’s bold and clean or shows signs of fading or smudging, helping to maximize value and boost buyer confidence.

And it’s yet another step in CGC’s ongoing mission to enhance the integrity and appeal of certified collectibles.
