Among the many Silver Age keys offered in this auction is a Fantastic Four #1 graded CGC 6.0, featuring the first appearance of the Fantastic Four. Published in 1961, Fantastic Four #1 launched the Marvel Age of comics and redefined the superhero team for a new generation. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the issue introduced readers to Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm, who gained fantastic powers after an accident in space. With its bold storytelling, fractured family dynamics and science-fiction flair, Fantastic Four #1 broke from tradition and set the tone for the modern Marvel Universe. The team’s popularity led to numerous film and television adaptations, including “Fantastic Four: First Steps” premiering in theaters in July 2025.

As the Fantastic Four redefined what a superhero team could be, Marvel was also preparing to flip the script on solo heroes. Enter Spider-Man, a teenage outcast with real problems, sharp wit and a spider-like agility.

So it’s fitting that also offered in this auction is an Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 3.5. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko revolutionized the superhero genre in 1962 when they introduced Spider-Man in this final issue of Amazing Fantasy. Superheroes up until that point were always adults, while the teenager was their sidekick. With Spider-Man, Lee said he wanted to create a teen hero who was more than a sidekick. His debut was a gamble, and it quickly paid off. Over the decades, Spider-Man has grown into one of the most beloved and recognizable characters in the world.
