CGC-certified Fantastic Four Comics Clobber in Heritage Sale

Posted on 7/29/2025

Silver Age keys certified by CGC realized cosmic prices for Fantastic Four classics in a July 17 sale.

Silver Age classics featuring Marvel’s first family, and certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), drew impressive results in Heritage Auctions' Fantastic Four Comics Showcase Auction on July 17, 2025.

Among the comics sold in this auction was a Fantastic Four #1 graded CGC 8.0 (lot 81001), which realized $75,000. Featuring the first appearance of the Fantastic Four in 1961, Fantastic Four #1 launched the Marvel Age of comics and redefined the superhero team for a new generation. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the issue introduced readers to Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm, who gained fantastic powers after an accident in space. With its bold storytelling, fractured family dynamics and science-fiction flair, Fantastic Four #1 broke from tradition and set the tone for the modern Marvel Universe.

A Fantastic Four #1 graded CGC 4.5 (lot 81002) was also sold in this auction for $16,200.

Another strong finisher was a Fantastic Four #5 graded CGC 7.0 (lot 81006), which realized $14,400. This landmark issue introduced readers to Doctor Doom, the armored monarch of Latveria and one of Marvel’s most enduring villains. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1962, Doom blended intellect, mysticism and a terrifying sense of superiority, instantly setting the tone for what a true supervillain could be. Already a top-tier collectible, this key issue is heating up even more with the official news that Doctor Doom will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, portrayed by none other than Iron Man Robert Downey Jr.

Two more copies of Fantastic Four #5, both certified by CGC, were also sold in this auction — a CGC 6.0 (lot 81007) that realized $8,400 and a CGC 4.5 (lot 81008) that realized $6,000.
