Topping the auction was a Captain America Comics #1 graded CGC 7.0, which realized $250,420. Published by Timely Comics (a precursor to Marvel) in 1941, this comic featured the first appearance of Captain America. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the cover showing Captain America punching Adolf Hitler became an iconic image, reflecting the burgeoning patriotic fervor in the United States prior to its entry into World War II. This issue also introduced key characters such as Bucky Barnes, Cap's loyal sidekick, and the villainous Red Skull.

Also sold from Marvel’s Timely era was a Marvel Mystery Comics #4 graded CGC 7.5, which realized $133,000. Published in February 1940, Marvel Mystery Comics #4 is the first cover appearance of Namor the Sub-Mariner after he debuted just months earlier in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1. Created by Bill Everett, Namor is half-human and half-Atlantean and often hostile toward the surface world, setting him apart from the more traditional do-gooder heroes of the era.
