Posted on 11/3/2025

This month’s featured set celebrates Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, with hundreds of amazing, high-grade issues in this collection from CGC Comics Registry member Littleweasel!

More than 30 years ago, all Hell broke loose when Todd McFarlane created Spawn at Image Comics, changing the game for comic book creators and publishers forever. You might think CGC Comics Registry Member Littleweasel made a deal with Malebolgia to collect so many issues in sharp high grade, featured in this month’s spotlight: Littleweasel's Spawn Collection.

Spawn hit the scene in 1992 and changed the game for comics in the ’90s. Todd McFarlane created Al Simmons, a CIA agent who is betrayed, killed and sent back from Hell as Spawn. The series mixes horror, crime and superhero action, and the story goes beyond simple good versus evil, diving into revenge and what it means to be human when you’ve been dragged through Hell.

Over time, Spawn grew into a full universe of characters, exploring Heaven, Hell and the space in between. The character moved into animation, film and collectibles, cementing his place in pop culture. McFarlane’s choice to own his creation inspired other artists to take risks and tell their own stories outside the big publishers.

“My ultimate goal is to own all the Spawn comics with a CGC grading of no less than 9.8,” Littleweasel wrote on their collection page.

Some of the Spawn comics already in this month’s featured collection include:

  • a Spawn #1 graded CGC 9.8 – first appearance of Spawn
  • a Spawn #2 graded CGC 9.8 – first appearance of Violator
  • a Spawn #9 graded CGC 9.8 – first appearance of Angela
  • a Spawn #12 graded CGC 9.8 – origin of Spawn
  • a Spawn #61 graded CGC 9.8 – cameo appearance of Chapel
  • a Spawn #100 graded CGC 9.8 – death of Angela
  • a Spawn #139 graded CGC 9.8 – Nyx becomes She-Spawn
  • a Spawn #174 graded CGC 9.8 – first appearance of Gunslinger Spawn
  • a Spawn #221 graded CGC 9.8 – Amazing Fantasy #15 homage cover
  • a Spawn #222 graded CGC 9.8 – Amazing Spider-Man #316 homage cover
  • a Spawn #223 graded CGC 9.8 – Walking Dead #1 homage cover

These comics, and more, helped this collection earn a Best in Set Type Award from 2006 to 2009.
