Action Comics #1 and Marvel Comics #1, Both Certified by CGC, Headline ComicConnect Sale
Posted on 12/1/2025
Collectors can bid on an Action Comics #1 and other Golden Age comics that helped give birth to the modern comic book industry. They are among many key issues graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) that are available in ComicConnect’s Event Auction 64 on December 7-11, 2025
The top comic in this auction is an Action Comics #1 graded CGC 8.5 Restored, which features the first appearance of Superman. Credited with starting the Golden Age and shaping the future of DC Comics and the entire modern comic book industry, Action Comics #1 launched Superman to prominence as an iconic American superhero in 1938. Superman went on to become not just a comic book hero but also a radio, television and film star, symbolizing hope and justice during World War II and the post-war era. Today, Superman remains a cultural icon, consistently popular through comic books, movies, television shows and merchandise.
Just as Action Comics helped launch DC, a Marvel Comics #1 graded CGC 4.5 is an example of the book that gave birth to what would later become the publisher Marvel Comics. Published in 1939 by then-Timely Comics, Marvel Comics #1 includes the first appearance of the Human Torch, which is different from the character of the same name from the Fantastic Four. This issue also includes the first appearance of Ka-Zar, Angel, Jungle Terror and Masked Raider, and the origin of Namor the Sub-Mariner. Upon its release, this book sold 80,000 copies and convinced its publisher to hire Joe Simon and Jack Kirby to create Captain America.
