CGC Comics Registry Featured Set: Heroes Reborn Mini-Series & One-Shots

Posted on 1/2/2026

Kicking off the year with a nod to fresh starts, this month’s featured set showcases Heroes Reborn and Return, and a collection built around one of Marvel’s boldest resets.

January feels like the right time to spotlight a collection built on new beginnings, and Heroes Reborn was nothing if not a bold reset. CGC Registry member Spiderman51 has pulled together an impressive run of the Heroes Reborn Mini-Series & One-Shots. This set captures that brief, ambitious experiment when familiar heroes stepped into a reshaped world and the entire line chased a clean slate for a new era.

The company-wide event spilled out of the X-Men’s Onslaught event, when Franklin Richards relocated its heroes to a “pocket universe,” giving them fresh starts. Major titles like Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Captain America and The Avengers were relaunched with new #1s. The idea was to modernize the characters and re-energize sales for fan-favorite titles. Jim Lee’s Wildstorm Productions took over Fantastic Four and Iron Man, while Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Studios assumed control of The Avengers and Captain America.

The series concluded in 1997 with Heroes Reborn: The Return, which saw them all returned to the Marvel Earth-616. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the event in 2006, Marvel briefly returned to the Heroes Reborn Universe in titles such as Exiles and Onslaught Reborn.

Heroes Reborn showed the company was willing to rebuild its icons from the ground up, try new creative voices and chase a cleaner entry point for modern readers. In many ways, Heroes Reborn may have been the blueprint that later gave us the Marvel Ultimate Universe.

Some of the comics in this month’s featured collection include:

  • a Heroes Reborn #1/2 graded CGC 9.8
  • a Heroes Reborn: Doom #1 graded CGC 9.8
  • a Heroes Reborn: Doomsday #1 graded CGC 9.4
  • a Heroes Reborn: Young Allies #1 graded CGC 9.6
  • a Heroes Reborn: Remnants #1 graded CGC 9.8
  • a Heroes Reborn: The Return #1 graded CGC 9.8

These comics, and more, helped earn this set the Best in Set Type Award 2015 to 2019.
