Tune in for CGC-certified Comics Based on Popular TV and Cartoons in Heritage Sale

Posted on 12/30/2025

This January, CGC-certified comics inspired by classic TV shows and cartoons of the 1960s, '70s and '80s are hitting prime time with file copies and pedigree examples.

Cue the theme song and don’t touch that dial. Classic hits from the 1960s, '70s and '80s come alive in comic form, graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), inspired by the shows and cartoons that once ruled Saturday mornings. Featuring an impressive lineup that includes file copies and pedigree examples, these books take prime time in Heritage Auctions’ TV & Movie Tie-Ins Comics Showcase Auction on January 15, 2026.

Among the TV classics in this lineup is a Scooby Doo #1 with a Savannah pedigree graded CGC 9.2. The Scooby-Doo comic book debuted in 1971 as a direct extension of the wildly popular Hanna-Barbera TV series. The comics closely followed the animated model, featuring Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma unmasking “monsters” who were always human crooks in disguise, with stories designed to feel like lost TV episodes rather than radical reinterpretations. Also included in this auction is a Scooby Doo #1 graded CGC 6.5, as well as CGC-certified copies of Scooby Doo #2-13 and #15-30.

Numbering around 40,000 collectibles, the Savannah is one of the largest collections ever pedigreed. It was assembled by a man born around World War I who began setting aside comic books in the '50s. He eventually befriended a local distributor who supplied him with comics each week, which he carefully stacked on shelves and in bins. He continued buying until his death at 95 in 2010.

Coming up next is a Super Friends #1 graded CGC 9.8. Like Scooby Doo, the Super Friends comic book, debuting in 1976, was a direct extension of the Hanna-Barbera animated series, bringing the Justice League’s kid-friendly television lineup into comic form. The comic closely mirrored the TV show’s tone and roster, featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and their “Super Friends” battling villains such as Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Darkseid and others. This auction also includes CGC-certified copies of Super Friends #2-24 and #26-47.
