Landry Pop Offers First Appearances of Spider-Man and Superman, Both Certified by CGC
Posted on 2/10/2026
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first crossover between Marvel and DC Comics, which featured the meeting of Superman and Spider-Man. Collectors can go back to where these characters began, to find the comics featuring their first appearances in Landry Pop Auctions’ The Vault: Golden Age to Modern Comics on February 10, 2026. They are among dozens of comics in the sale graded by CGC®.
Leading the auction is an Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 9.0 (lot 120), with an estimate of $400,000 to $600,000. This Silver Age grail features the first appearance of Spider-Man. Stan Lee came up with the idea of Spider-Man because he wanted a teen hero who was more than a sidekick. After initially rejecting it, Marvel later agreed to let him print the story in this final issue of Amazing Fantasy. Lee developed the issue with artist Steve Ditko, and Jack Kirby provided the cover. Sales went through the roof, and Marvel rushed him into his own series.
Flying behind the wall-crawler is an Action Comics #1 graded CGC 5.0 Restored (lot 101), with an estimate of $300,000 to $500,000. Credited with starting the Golden Age and shaping the future of DC Comics and the entire modern comic book industry, Action Comics #1 launched Superman to prominence as an iconic American superhero in 1938. Superman went on to become not just a comic book hero but also a radio, television and film star, symbolizing hope and justice during World War II and the post-war era. Today, Superman remains a cultural icon, consistently popular through comic books, movies, television shows and merchandise. Fewer than 100 copies of Action Comics #1 are recorded in the CGC Population Report.
