CGC-certified First Appearance of Spider-Man Sets Record for Grade in LPA Auction

The Landry Pop Auction event on February 10 realized total sales of more than $1.7 million.

Dozens of standout comics that are certified by CGC® powered Landry Pop Auctions’ latest sale to more than $1.7 million in total results, led by a record-breaking amount for the first appearance of Spider-Man. The Vault: Golden Age to Modern Comics auction was held February 10, 2026.

Up front was an Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 9.0 (lot 120), which realized $573,400. This sale set a new record for this comic in CGC 9.0 grade, and is the fifth highest-earning copy of the book ever sold. This Silver Age grail features the first appearance of Spider-Man. Stan Lee came up with the idea of Spider-Man because he wanted a teen hero who was more than a sidekick. After initially rejecting it, Marvel later agreed to let him print the story in this final issue of Amazing Fantasy.

Also achieving six figures in the sale was an Action Comics #1 graded CGC 5.0 Restored (lot 101), which realized $378,200. Credited with starting the Golden Age and shaping the future of DC Comics and the entire modern comic book industry, Action Comics #1 launched Superman to prominence as an iconic American superhero in 1938. Fewer than 100 copies of Action Comics #1 are recorded in the CGC Population Report.

"Our most recent Vault auction proved that quality will always perform, even in a market that’s been more volatile than we’ve seen in years," said Landry Pop Auctions' Founder Travis Landry. "Books like Amazing Fantasy #15 didn’t just hold strong; they shattered recent market trends and set a new all-time record. Even Batman #1, a purple label, defied expectations, with a top-of-the-census example achieving the highest price ever realized for a restored Batman #1. Taken together, this auction and several others continue to reinforce that CGC remains and will always be the gold standard in graded comic books and collectibles."
