CGC Signature Series Star Wars #1 Price Variant Signed by Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford Stars in Heritage Sale

The Star Wars Day auction on May 4 includes CGC Signature Series comics, a Star Wars VHS and the complete graded comic book series!

In celebration of Star Wars Day, collectors shouldn’t let another Dagobah without checking out these opportunities to bid on collectibles certified by CGC® in Heritage Auctions’ Star Wars Day Hollywood/Entertainment Signature Auction on May 4, 2026. We can guarantee these are some collectibles you’ve been looking for!

Created by George Lucas, the Star Wars saga first hit screens in 1977 with the groundbreaking film that would come to be known as “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.” Set in a galaxy far, far away, the story follows the epic struggle between the Jedi and the Sith, as well as the battle between the Rebel Alliance and the tyrannical Galactic Empire. The 1977 Marvel series brought these adventures to the colorful pages of comic books, captivating readers with its imaginative storytelling and dynamic artwork.

Technically, the Star Wars comic book shot first. With a cover date of July 1977, Marvel Comics actually released Star Wars #1, adapting the first movie, on April 12, 1977 — more than a month before the film hit theaters on May 25.

Among the most exciting items in this sale is a Star Wars #1 35-Cent Price Variant graded CGC Signature Series 9.6 signed by Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford (lot 11123). While most copies of these Star Wars comic books were priced at 30 cents, a limited number of issues were printed with a 35-cent cover price as part of a market test. As a result, these variants are significantly more valuable due to their limited distribution.

They should not, however, be confused with the much more common 35-Cent Whitman series, which are distinguished by their diamond-shaped price box on the cover.

Adding to the rarity are the signatures from two of the film’s actors: Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Ford (Han Solo). According to the CGC Population Report, there are presently about 20,000 examples of Star Wars #1 recorded — but only 350 of the 35-Cent Price Variant. Among those, only 15 are CGC Signature Series examples, and only one with Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill’s signature.
