CGC-certified Fantastic Four #2 Realizes Record Price in Landry Pop Sale
Posted on 4/17/2026
A high-grade issue of a Silver Age Marvel classic that is certified by CGC® doubled the previous record for its issue as it soared to a six-figure price. It was among nearly 200 CGC-certified comics in Landry Pop’s Dixie Cream Collection auction on April 14, 2026.
Leading the auction with a record high mark was a Fantastic Four #2 graded CGC 9.8 (lot 155), which realized $170,800, defeating the previous record of $84,000 for a CGC 9.4 that was sold in 2024. This issue featured the first appearance of the alien shapeshifting Skrulls. Close behind was the first appearance of the team in Fantastic Four #1 graded CGC 8.0 (lot 154), which realized $85,400.
The Fantastic Four debuted in 1961, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and quickly reshaped superhero storytelling by making its heroes feel human. Instead of flawless icons, readers met a brilliant but burdened Reed Richards, fiercely independent Sue Storm, hotheaded Johnny Storm, and transformed powerhouse Ben Grimm. While Marvel had been publishing since the Golden Age with characters like Human Torch and Namor the Sub-Mariner, under publishing banners such as Timely and Atlas, the Fantastic Four marked the true beginning of the modern Marvel Universe.
According to the auction house, the Dixie Cream Collection was built in the early 1960s by a young collector using money he earned selling donuts at a local shop called Dixie Cream, and it captures the very birth of the Marvel Age.
