CGC and Todd McFarlane To Host Whatnot Auction of CGC-certified 'McFarlane Collection' Comics
Posted on 4/17/2026
A rare window into a creator’s vault is about to open. Superstar artist Todd McFarlane will join CGC® Vice President of Autographs Brittany McManus for a a live Whatnot stream on Thursday, April 23, 2026, beginning at 1 p.m. PDT (4 p.m. EDT), giving collectors a front-row seat to the debut of CGC-graded books from the Personal Collection of Todd McFarlane.
During the event, McFarlane and McManus will be fielding questions from the chat while pulling back the curtain on pieces drawn from McFarlane’s long-discussed warehouse archive.
“Getting to host something like this with Todd is genuinely special,” McManus said. “You’re not just seeing books, you’re hearing the stories behind them directly from the source, and that kind of access is what makes this hobby so exciting.”
Over the course of the 2-to-3-hour show, 50 lots will be auctioned, each starting at just $1. Forty will feature signed books, while 10 will spotlight the newly unveiled personal collection. These are items hand-selected from McFarlane’s own holdings — part of a larger trove that will take time to fully catalog and release. Expect stories, tangents, and candid insight from the Toddfather himself! For collectors, it’s a chance not just to bid, but to hear directly from the creator about the books, the era they come from, and why they matter.
As an added incentive, viewers who stick around through the end of the stream will have a shot at a giveaway Post-it note sketch by McFarlane, a fittingly personal touch to close out an already intimate event.
McFarlane is one of the most influential figures in modern comics, a superstar artist, and an entrepreneur who helped redefine the industry’s look and business model in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Rising to prominence on The Amazing Spider-Man, his dynamic, hyper-detailed style and co-creation of Venom reshaped Marvel’s visual identity before he broke away to co-found Image Comics, a move that shifted power toward creators. There, he launched Spawn, one of the most successful independent comics of all time, and expanded his reach through McFarlane Toys.
