CGC Comics Registry Featured Set: Comic Book Fanatics' Gerry Conway Signature Collection

On April 26, 2026, the comics community lost one of our most legendary and beloved creators, Gerry Conway. This month’s featured CGC Comics Registry Set, Comic Book Fanatics' Gerry Conway Signature Collection by Registry Member RayJr, celebrates the life and career of a true legend!

Legendary comic book writer Gerry Conway helped shape the modern superhero era with a career spanning more than five decades across both Marvel and DC Comics.

Beginning as a teenage writer in the early 1970s, Conway quickly became one of the industry’s defining creative voices, co-creating enduring characters including The Punisher, Power Girl, and Killer Croc, while also penning landmark runs on titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Justice League of America, and Firestorm. Conway’s influence continues to resonate through modern pop culture, with The Punisher recently appearing in Daredevil: Born Again and a Disney+ special presentation, while Power Girl is heavily rumored for a future DC Studios film appearance.

Conway also made comics history in 1976 as the writer of Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, the groundbreaking first crossover between Marvel and DC’s flagship heroes. The landmark publication united Superman and Spider-Man for the first time and became one of the most influential event comics ever produced, helping pave the way for decades of intercompany crossovers.

Nearly 50 years later, the historic collaboration remains a defining moment in comics history and is being celebrated with an all-new Superman/Spider-Man crossover event commemorating the anniversary.

Sadly, Gerry Conway has passed away, but his imagination helped redefine what superhero storytelling could be, inspiring generations of creators and readers alike.
