Among the highlights of this auction is an Action Comics #1 graded CGC 8.5 Restored. Credited with shaping the future of DC Comics and the entire modern comic book industry, Action Comics #1 launched Superman to prominence as an iconic American superhero in 1938. This grail is in high demand regardless of the color of its CGC certification blue. For instance, a CGC 7.0 Conserved example recently realized $1.4 million at auction.

Also offered in this sale is an Amazing Spider-Man #3 graded CGC 9.0. Published in 1963 during the explosive early days of the Marvel Age, this comic introduced one of Spider-Man’s greatest and most enduring enemies: Doctor Octopus. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the issue debuted the brilliant but unstable scientist Otto Octavius, whose experimental accident fused four powerful mechanical arms to his body and transformed him into a dangerous supervillain. “Doc Ock” became a popular villain, most notably appearing in films played by actor Alfred Molina.

In addition to Golden and Silver Age grails, the auction also includes many Bronze and Copper books in stunning CGC 9.9 grades. Some of them, and other notable CGC-certified comics in this sale, include:

  • an Amazing Spider-Man #252 graded CGC 9.9
  • an Amazing Spider-Man #375 graded CGC 9.9
  • an Avengers #2 graded CGC 9.8
  • a Batman #608 City of Burbank Variant graded CGC Signature Series 9.8 (Jim Lee)
