CGC Announces Private Signing with Janice Chiang
Posted on 6/3/2026
CGC Signature Series is pleased to announce an exclusive Private Signing event with comic book letterer Janice Chiang! Collectors can submit both comics and cards to this event.
Chiang began her journey as a comic letterer with a fine arts background at Neal Adams’ Continuity Studio in 1974, under the mentorship of Larry Hama and Ralph Reese. In 1975, Adams connected her with Danny Crespi (at the Marvel Bullpen), who would give her a page or two to begin her training on lettering directly on the artwork.
During this tenure, she lettered the iconic Black Panther issue “And All Our Past Decades Have Seen Revolutions,” and an issue of Deathlok titled, “Twice Removed From Yesterday.” In the 1980s, she lettered Conan The Barbarian, with editor Louise Simonson and artist John Buscema, and worked on titles such as He-Man, Transformers, Thundercats, Ka-Zar, Sectaurs, Iron Man, Rom, Micronauts, and Frank Miller's Daredevil series.
Chiang had been mentored by editor and writer Mark Gruenwald. She lettered DP7, Squadron Supreme, and Quasar in collaboration with Guenwald, and teamed up on other series, such as The Punisher, Iron Man, Dazzler, What If, Doctor Strange, The Avengers, Captain America, The Fantastic Four, Spider-Girl, X-Men, and Spider-Man. Many of the series that she has lettered are source materials for the Marvel movies that have been produced. She also lettered Rob Liefeld's first professional series, Hawk & Dove, Kevin Smith's first comic (Green Lantern), and Jim Lee's tenure on Alpha Flight, as well as working on Power Puff Girls and creating the iconic Transformers and Ghost Rider balloons.
Chiang became a team member that created the King Features Spider Man Daily comic strips and the Sunday full page comic. She had the honor of collaborating directly with comic industry legends such as Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Joe Sinnott, and Alec Saviuk. At Papercutz, founded by Jim Salicrup and Terry Nantier, she lettered 26 “The Smurfs” translation graphic novels. At John Carpenter and Sandy King Carpenter’s Storm King Comics, Chiang has been teaming up with various creators over the past 13 years, and she has lettered the iconic Tales For A Halloween Night V1-10, and many more titles. At Sandstorm Comics, founded by Mo Abedin, she has lettered these graphic novels: Acro & The Cat, Republica, Solar Blader, Beyond The Auravault, All Upon A Time, and Istabraq.
More of her work will be published for sale at New York Comic Con 2026
