Iconic villains, supernatural twists, and a cult-favorite franchise back in the spotlight are driving collector interest this month. See which key issues are heating up and why.

In this monthly series, CGC delves into the dynamic world of comic book collecting, focusing on the hottest titles influencing the current market. Utilizing comprehensive insights from CGC submission data, we explore significant first appearances, rare variant covers, and milestone issues.

A notorious Gotham grin is getting a LEGO-fueled revival, a deadly mercenary is back on collectors’ radar, and a beloved paranormal franchise is stirring once again. Meanwhile, Marvel’s horror ambitions have collectors wondering if a dark universe of familiar heroes might become its next collecting phenomenon!

Fantastic Four #5 (1962)

Fantastic Four #5 takes the spotlight this month as the first appearance of Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most iconic villains. A brilliant scientist, master sorcerer, and ruler of the fictional nation of Latveria, Doom combines extraordinary intellect with a relentless pursuit of power. With Doom set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in December’s Avengers: Doomsday, this landmark issue is more relevant than ever. A key piece of Marvel history, it’s the perfect time to revisit the comic that introduced the world to Victor von Doom.

X-Files #1 (1995)

Trust no one, but keep an eye on this issue. X-Files #1, published by Topps Comics, is drawing renewed interest as Ryan Coogler develops a reboot of the beloved paranormal franchise. Adding to the momentum, Dynamite Entertainment has also launched a new X-Files comic series, giving fans another reason to revisit the property’s comic book history. With the franchise potentially returning to television and comics finding new life, fans are returning once more to where it all began.

Uncanny X-Men #159 (1982)

What happens when one of the X-Men’s most iconic heroes becomes a creature of the night? In Uncanny X-Men #159, Storm is transformed into a vampire, giving collectors a darker twist on the character’s history. The issue is attracting renewed attention now as Marvel launches its Midnight line, an alternate-universe horror imprint that reimagines familiar heroes through a supernatural lens. Could this be Marvel’s answer to DC’s Absolute line, offering radically different takes on established characters?

Detective Comics #880 (2011)

Jock’s haunting cover for Detective Comics #880 has become one of the most recognizable Joker images of the modern era, capturing the character’s menace with a stark, unsettling simplicity. Interest is getting another boost thanks to DC’s recent facsimile edition, which includes a LEGO variant cover tied to a new LEGO set re-creating the iconic artwork. That crossover between comic art, LEGO collecting, and Batman fandom are the building blocks that put this modern classic back in the spotlight.

New Teen Titans #2 (1980)

Deathstroke’s debut in New Teen Titans #2 remains a major milestone for DC collectors, introducing the mercenary who would evolve into one of the publisher’s most formidable villains. Now, anticipation is building around his planned appearance in a new DC Universe film opposite Bane, another iconic Batman adversary. With two heavyweight villains sharing the screen, collectors are revisiting the issue that introduced us all to Slade Wilson, betting that cinematic exposure could bring renewed attention to this Bronze Age key.
