A Batman #1, graded CGC 7.0, led the way for certified comic books at Heritage Auctions' Feb. 22-24 Comics and Comic Art Signature Auction. The book, which has off-white to white pages, realized $334,600.
Batman #1, released by D.C. Comics in Spring 1940, features the first appearance of the Joker and Catwoman.
And talk about a dynamic duo: A second Batman #1, graded CGC 3.5 with cream to off-white pages, took third place for certified comics at this same auction, realizing $143,400.
Meanwhile, it was one of the brightest days for Green Lantern fans, as an All-American Comics #16, graded CGC 6.5, realized $215,100 at this Heritage sale. The July 1940 D.C. release features the origin and first appearance of the Green Lantern.
This result displaces an All-American Comics #16 graded 8.0 that sold for $203,150 in 2013 as the top Green Lantern issue in Heritage Auctions' online Hall of Fame for top comic book sales.
