Renowned comic book expert and CGC Primary Grader, Matt Nelson, has been promoted to CGC President.

Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), a division of the Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®), is pleased to announce that Matt Nelson, one of the most renowned comic book experts in the industry, has been promoted to President. CGC is the world’s leading third-party grading service for comic books, trading cards, magazines and other pop culture-related collectibles.

Nelson joined CGC in 2013 when it purchased Nelson’s company, Classics Incorporated, and reorganized it as Classic Collectible Services® (CCS®). Nelson became President of CCS, which provides industry-leading comic book pressing, restoration and restoration removal services. Indeed, he is a comic book restoration innovator and authority, having introduced the revolutionary process of leaf casting to comic book restoration, and legitimizing and evolving comic book pressing throughout the early 2000s.

In 2016, Nelson transitioned from CCS President to CGC Primary Grader. In this role, he has handled hundreds of thousands of comics, including the most valuable comics ever sold, such as the Action Comics #1 that sold for $3.25 million and the Batman #1 that realized $2.22 million. Nelson also has an encyclopedic knowledge of comic book history and pedigrees.

Nelson is well-known among comic book collectors and industry professionals. In numerous interviews, he has shared his expertise, from how to handle comic books to how to get the most enjoyment from one’s collection. At shows and comic-cons, he is a frequent panelist.

Now as President of CGC, Nelson will lead the CGC team as it continues to grow in numbers and services. The expansion of CGC has been extraordinary since the company was founded in 2000. With Nelson at the helm, CGC will introduce even more exciting initiatives, while always adhering to the founding principles of accuracy, consistency and integrity.

“I started collecting comic books when I was 14 years old, and my love for the hobby persists to this day,” commented Nelson. “As CGC President, I look forward to applying all that I have learned over the years as well as the passion that drives me to do what’s best for comic books and the people who love them.”

“No one is more knowledgeable and passionate about comics than Matt Nelson,” said Steven R. Eichenbaum, CEO of CCG. “I am confident that his expertise, commitment to excellence and innovative way of thinking will take CGC to new heights. Congratulations, Matt.”

Together, the CCG companies have certified more than 60 million collectibles to become the world's largest provider of expert, impartial and tech-enabled services for collectibles. Interested in pursuing a career in collectibles? Visit
