CGC-graded Amazing Spider-Man #1 Sets New Price Record for Title

Certified by CGC, a high-grade example of the 1963 debut issue was sold for $520,380 in a Hake's Auctions sale on July 26, 2023.

A high-grade example of the first issue of Amazing Spider-Man that was certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) swung to a new price record when it crossed the half-million mark in a Hake’s Auctions sale on July 26, 2023.

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 graded CGC 9.6 (item 902) reached a new milestone by realizing $520,380. As of June 20, 2023, there were only five examples of a CGC 9.6 Universal grade in the CGC Census, with a scant two graded higher. This sale easily beat the previous price record of $336,000 for a CGC 9.6 example sold in November 2022.

Spider-Man was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15 by Marvel Comics in 1962. The new superhero immediately found success with readers, so Marvel rushed out his own series, beginning with Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 1963. The comic focuses on Spider-Man’s adventures with stories that recount how Peter Parker received his powers and teamed with the Fantastic Four against the Chameleon.
