Variants: In addition to the standard edition released in the United States in 1963, there was also a UK price variant. Soon after (1966) came the Golden Record Reprint. It was reprinted again as "Marvel Comics Presents" in 1988 as a mini-comic, and then again with the Collecting Comics Reprint (1990), kicking off a steady lineup of reprints that included the Marvel Milestones Edition (1993), Wizard ACE Edition (2003), a Reprint in 2005 and 2006, USPS Reprint (2007), Dallas Comic Con Reprint (2011), Playstation Edition (2018), Folio Society Facsimile (2021), Facsimile Edition (2022), Facsimile Edition Skan Srisuwan Variant (2022), Facsimile Edition Skan Srisuwan NYCC Limited Variant (2022), Facsimile Edition Gabriele Dell’Otto Variant (2022), Facsimile Edition Gabriele Dell’Otto Virgin Variant (2022), Facsimile Edition Rob Liefeld Variant (2022), Facsimile Edition Rob Liefeld Virgin Variant (2022), the Walmart Facsimile Edition (2022), and a SDCC Edition (2025).

What makes it special? Amazing Spider-Man #1 is one of the most important issues in Marvel Comics history, marking the first solo series for the character who had already become a breakout sensation in Amazing Fantasy #15. Published in 1963 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the issue expands Peter Parker’s world beyond his origin story, introducing the Daily Bugle’s J. Jonah Jameson and establishing the complicated relationship between Spider-Man and the newspaper publisher who brands him a menace. It also features the debut of the Chameleon and brings Spider-Man into conflict with the Fantastic Four, making the issue an early showcase for the interconnected Marvel Universe.

Why is it interesting now? Alright, let’s say it one last time… as Spider-Man’s legacy reaches another remarkable milestone with Amazing Spider-Man approaching its historic 1,000th issue in September 2026. At the same time, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed $2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Marvel Studios film ever and one of only a handful of movies to reach that extraordinary benchmark.

Did you know? Spider-Man has crossed paths with some seriously unexpected characters over the years. Some of the most unique include KISS, Transformers, and Ren & Stimpy, proving that there are apparently very few fictional worlds that can keep Spider-Man out.
