CGC Featured Comic of the Month: Fantastic Four #5

Posted on 11/2/2026

Doomsday is coming… to theaters next month! So, we’re featuring the first appearance of one of Marvel’s most magical villains!

Name of comic: Fantastic Four #5

Comic publisher: Marvel Comics

Date: July 1962

Variants: This Silver Age comic was reprinted as a Marvel Milestone Edition, and a 2025 Facsimile that included the standard cover, Ryan Brown variant, blank sketch cover variant, and a foil variant.

What makes it special? Fantastic Four #5 takes the spotlight this month as the first appearance of Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most iconic villains. A brilliant scientist, master sorcerer, and ruler of the fictional nation of Latveria, Doom combines extraordinary intellect with a relentless pursuit of power.

Why is it interesting now? With Doom set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in December’s Avengers: Doomsday, this landmark issue is more relevant than ever. A key piece of Marvel history, it’s the perfect time to revisit the comic that introduced the world to Victor von Doom.

Did you know? Before Robert Downey Jr. wore the mask, Doctor Doom first appeared on screen in an animated feature, The Marvel Super Heroes, in 1966, where he was voiced by Henry Ramer. The Fantastic Four cartoon followed in 1967, with Joseph Sirola voicing Doom.
