Ultimate Fallout #4 is CGC’s Featured Comic of the Month for January

Posted on 12/31/2018

The book features the debut of Miles Morales, the web-slinger from the new “Into the Spiderverse” film.

An Ultimate Fallout #4, left, and a Variant Edition were sold recently through ComicLink. The sale prices were $235 and $1,805, respectively.

Name of comic: Ultimate Fallout #4

Comic publisher: Marvel Comics

Date: October 2011

Variants: Second Printing (206 in CGC Census) and Variant Edition (376)

What makes it special? This book has the first appearance of Miles Morales as Spider-Man in its separate Ultimate universe. The Morales character is a New York City teenager with an African American father and a Puerto Rican mother. Like Peter Parker, Morales is bitten by a spider that causes him to develop superpowers.

Why is it interesting now? “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” was released in the past few weeks. The computer-animated film features actor/rapper Shameik Moore as Morales. Don’t worry, Peter Parker fans. Actor Tom Holland returns in May in “Avengers 4” and in July in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”

Did you know? Shameik Moore’s Spider-Man is not the first non-white Spider-Man. A 41-episode live-action series ran in 1978-1979 on TV Tokyo, starring Shinji Todō as Takuya Yamashiro / Spider-Man. Under a deal with the Japanese company that produced the show, Marvel had permitted the use of any of their characters. The show had the famous hero in a red and blue costume, but much was different from the comic book version of famous web-slinger, including a giant robot controlled by Spider-Man.
