Name of comic: Captain America #100

Comic publisher: Marvel Comics

Date: April 1968

Variants: none

What makes it special? After returning in Avengers #4 in 1964, Captain America became the headlining hero in the Tales of Suspense comic book series, beginning with issue #59. With issue #100 in 1968, the series was officially retitled, “Captain America” and would become the first ongoing Captain America solo series since 1954. The series helped re-introduce the Golden Age hero into the new Silver Age of comics.

Why is it interesting now? Captain America struggled to hold on to readers after the end of World War II, but since returning 10 years later in the Silver Age, the character has only grown in popularity over the years. Captain America (Steve Rogers) has been featured in many films, portrayed by actor Chris Evans.

Did you know? Before his official Silver Age return in Avengers #4, Marvel tested fans’ interest in Strange Tales #114, with the story of an acrobat disguised as Captain America.
