Name: X-Men #24

Comic publisher: Marvel Comics

Date: September 1993

Variants: Newsstand and direct editions

What makes it special? This issue is sought-after by collectors for its classic cover by artist Andy Kubert, featuring everyone’s favorite mutant couple, Gambit and Rogue! The cover has been homaged by artists like Joe Madureira on his House of X #1 (2019) 1:50 variant.

Why is it interesting now? This comic is perfect for February because it celebrates the complicated, heartfelt relationship between Gambit and Rogue. This classic image of Gambit’s charm and Rogue’s guarded vulnerability resonates deeply, reminding us that love, even when imperfect or fraught with challenges, can be heroic.

Did you know? Gambit’s powers were very different in his early appearances. He originally charged his playing cards, and other objects, through a green energy from his eyes.

Graded highlights: As of January 27, 2025, there were 1,040 examples of X-Men #24 in the CGC Census, with 330 graded CGC 9.8.

Sales highlights: A CGC Signature Series 9.8 copy, with a signature and sketch by Andy Kubert, realized $432 in an eBay auction in September 2024.

CGC Comics Registry Champion: Member ebakerl has an X-Men #24 graded CGC 9.8 in their collection, Edwards X-Men 1991, which helped earn it the Best in Set Type Award from 2016 to 2024.
