CGC Featured Comic of the Month: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1
Posted on 2/2/2026
Name of comic: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1
Comic publisher: DC Comics
Date: August 2021
Variants: DC Comics published a standard edition, along with a black variant and a variant by artist Gary Frank. There was also an exclusive NYCC 2021 variant and virgin variant, SDCC 2023 variant and a Dollar Tree reprint.
What makes it special? In the story by Tom King, with gorgeous artwork by Bilquis Evely, Supergirl leaves Earth for a distant planet under a red sun where she can get drunk to celebrate her 21st birthday. Supergirl encounters a young girl named Ruthye on a quest for revenge on the space pirate Krem, who killed her father. The couple spend the next 12 issues crossing the galaxy to find the Krem, as Supergirl tries to stop Ruthye from fulfilling her mission to kill Krem, and tries to teach her the importance of justice.
Why is it interesting now? After Supergirl’s cameo appearance in the Superman (2025) film, played by Game of Thrones actress Milly Alcock, Supergirl is now set to appear in her first solo film since 1984. The upcoming film is based on the Woman of Tomorrow storyline, sending collectors into a frenzy to grab and grade this book while they still can. In addition to Alcock as Supergirl, the film also features the return of Krypto and fish-out-of-water Jason Momoa’s long-awaited debut as Lobo!
Did you know? Unlike Superman, who arrived on earth as an infant, Kara (Supergirl) grew up on Krypton and has vivid memories of losing everyone. The series leans into that, making this one of the rare Supergirl stories that treats her not as “younger Superman,” but as someone shaped by memory and trauma rather than hope.
