Name: Batman Adventures Holiday Special #1

Comic publisher: DC Comics

Date: January 1995

Variants: None

What makes it special? This issue, written by acclaimed animated series writer Paul Dini, includes the classic story “The Harley and the Ivy,” featuring one of the earliest pairings of power couple Harley Quinn (only her fourth appearance in comics) and Poison Ivy. It also includes the story “White Christmas,” which is widely regarded by fans as one of the best Mr. Freeze stories of all time.

Why is it interesting now? It’s that time of year when the Batmobile has lost its wheels. Cuddle up next to a warm fire and enjoy reading this classic Batman Christmas comic.

Did you know?  Mr. Freeze was first introduced in Batman #121 (1959) as “Mr. Zero,” and was renamed Mr. Freeze for his appearance on the 1966 Batman TV series. After that, he was mostly forgotten and ignored until Batman: The Animated Series reinvented the villain with a tragic origin and more deadly tech. This new Mr. Freeze quickly became the standard in comics, and even with his film debut (portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger) in 1997’s “Batman & Robin.”
